Wal-Mart is smart to try to expand to fast growing countries like India (which by the way is scheduled to overtake China as the worlds largest population). However, I feel that some of the draw of a store like Wal-Mart will be lost in a country like India. The whole point is that WalMart has low prices in America because it sells goods made in third world countries like India. All the Indian "mom and pop" shops mentioned in this article are already selling goods made in a third world country: India.

What a surprise that when Wal-Mart cannot leagally enter India on its own, it pairs up with a huge Indian cooperation and wedges its way in. Ugh. Although I am sick of Wal-Mart and its pushy tactics, I did find this article pretty interesting. For one, it will be very interesting to see if Mittal's wish, that by next August, "several hundred stores across the country will probably carry both brand names", comes true. Once again, many "mom and pop" stores will go out of buiness if the Indian version of Wal-Mart springs up all over the place, but as Pierce mentioned, it will be most interesting to see where Wal-Marts products will be coming from. How will they provide "everyday low prices" if much of the country they are selling products to is already extremely impoverished?

7-11 is the worst place to stop at, i remember the first time i went into the 7-11 at Manorville i saw the same guy working there 10 years later. Wal-mart should stick to large market economys eg china and us. I believe that it is making to sense for wal-mart to open up in smaller countires with very poor people and poor econmny
