Since the blackout of August 2003, there have been some policy changes, but have there been enough? During the time of the blackout, there should have been control mechanisms in the neighboring systems to help prevent the outage from cascading across the Northeast, but there werent and the region suffered. There are now things being implemented such as when the weather goes bad, the operators are much more attentive then they were 3 years ago. Another addition to the saftey of the nations power is the role of the federal government in identifying national corridors for the new electricity transmission. With the new saftey precautions in place, we hope that there is a new saftey within the country power systems.
